I attend my local church, the pastor says we should be open with our fellow church members and with him. I am ashamed because my son has been charged with drink driving and given a short prison sentence. No-one knows, I feel a failure as a parent, I want to stand by my son but according to the church preaching he is living in sin with his partner and their having a child, my grandson is another sin. I am 60, my children are grown up and moved out, my husband has died recently, I feel like giving up, I admit I took an overdose to end it all, I keep this secret because I feel so stupid and yet no one understands how lonely I get. What’s he point of counselling, I’m too old, it feels too late for me. Also I can’t afford the fees these therapists ask. Fees * older people and counselling * bereavement

The first step is to attend for an initial consultation, or assessment, with a trained counsellor. Presently the fee for this is £35 - £50, thereafter fees are set according to your means. At this meeting the aim is for your questions to be answered and you to decide whether to receive counselling, either for a fixed number of sessions or ongoing. Individual therapy is usually once weekly, meeting for 50 minutes. Whatever you discuss and say to your counsellor is strictly confidential, the counsellor will explain to you at the outset our code of practice in this regard.
