Our Beginnings
When, in 1998, Age Concern’s Bereavement and Loss service had to end Phoenix Counselling Service began ( hence our name! ). We are now BACP Accredited.
Our Aim (Read here about anger counselling, about stress counselling, about bereavement counselling) As counsellors and supervisors we wished to continue to offer individual counselling and therapy, to any member of the general public, that was affordable, confidential and professional, however we now work with a complete range of issues ( click on the buttons on the left side of this page to view our services in detail ) and across a wide geographical area ( see maps ) with clients and patients coming from all over London and South Essex.
Our Prices
From our work with bereaved people we are committed to offering counselling to all ages and appreciate the need to keep fees as low as possible, however we receive no grants or subsidies therefore we maintain a sliding scale of fees for treatment, with those paying higher rates enabling us to offer counselling even where income is low, details here about a counselling service.
Your Rights
To ensure we offer a professional service to high standards and to protect your rights we abide by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s ethical framework for good practice in counselling & psychotherapy. All clients have access to appropriate complaints procedures.

We give 1 to 1 counselling, group therapy , training days in anger management, couples or relationship counselling.
Where are we
We can offer sessions at centres in Bethnal Green, Central London, Camden, across East London, a counsellor Barking, Chingford, Higham’s Park, Walthamstow, counselling Ilford, a therapist Hainault, Goodmayes, Dagenham, Forest Gate, into Essex, Southend on Sea, Romford. We are easily reached from the A13, North Circular, M11, Eastern Avenue, A12. Our centres are situated near to railway stations and on main bus routes with parking and accessibility for those with mobility difficulties. ( see maps about a counselling service)
Our Standards We require our counsellors, therapists and associates to hold professional indemnity insurance, to receive proper supervision of their work, to be nearing the end of or have undergone a professional training, to receive appropriate personal therapy. The first step is to attend for an initial consultation, or assessment, with a trained counsellor. Presently the fee for this is £35 - £50, £15 where referred by a health professional, thereafter fees are set according to your means. Allow up to an hour for this session.
