The First Session -
* Your counsellor will ask what brings you to seek counselling at this point in your life.
* There will be a shared exploration of your reasons for referring together with the issues underlying.
* A history of your origins, other family, experiences in school and education, work and interests, general welfare will be taken.
* Consideration will be given to whether you would find the counselling process of benefit.
* If you decide to have further contact our contract will be given which details our commitment to confidentiality and your right to expect a professional service from our counsellors and psychotherapists.
For the early weeks of counselling- You may notice, be surprised by, find new and unique to the counselling experience.
* the attention the counsellor pays to time keeping - this is to provide a settled, safe and trustworthy experience for you at a time when you may feel very vulnerable, confused and be re-experiencing feelings of hurt, anger and anxiety.
* initially things don’t feel easier - this is to be anticipated or expected when at the first contact you are speaking of and revealing perhaps painful and shameful feelings and events that may have been previously secret and are hard to think and even speak of.
* the cost of the counselling - this reflects the cost to you of coping with, and bearing previously so difficult feelings and experiences. The previous cost and harmful effect may have been equally high to your life, relationships and work. Counselling is never embarked upon lightly and the changes we seek when we come to therapy may well be of a deep, radical, profound and lasting kind.
